The aim of the weekend school is to provide Islamic education that does not only limit Islam to a religion of rituals but to assist the child to understand the concepts, disciplines and also provide the knowledge required to practice Islam as a way of life.

The school is not an Arabic language school but rather an Islamic school and as such it does not teach children to speak and understand Arabic fluently. However, it provides them with basic speaking and understanding vocabulary and grammar to assist them in understanding the books of our religion and how to read and write Arabic fluently. 

The school uses the Weekend Learning curriculum (www.weekendlearning.com) in addition to some selected materials used as support materials to compliment it. Subjects taught include Quran Memorization and Recitation, Arabic language, Hadith, Du’a, Life of the Prophet, Islamic Morals and manners, Quran studies, Practice Islam and Islamic studies.

The environment is a positive Islamic environment that ensures safety, comfort and discipline while having nurturing capabilities to foster and inculcate the love and practice of the Islamic faith.

The school admits children from the age of two years. Each academic period runs within a period of two calendar years with seven terms, each term consisting of twelve weekends with a one weekend break after every term. The school proceeds on a one month break during the month of Ramadan and also a one weekend break for each Eid that falls during the term.

School hours are Saturdays and Sundays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, however the school is open to children between 8:00 am and 5:00pm. ‘Office hours’ is between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The weekend school is currently operating a pre-school and grade school with student ages ranging from 4 months to 16years.

In the quest to raise role models, the school employs the services of staff that have both Islamic knowledge and formal education.

In addition, the qualified teachers who make it through the interview undergo periodic training to add additional experience with regards to effective teaching methodologies. Our teachers guide the students to set and achieve their educational and TARBIYYA [Islamic nurturing] goals.  

Our students/staff are well-fed based on nutritional needs and the quality and quantity of the food is satisfactory. To sustain this, the Centre notifies parents about the weekly payment of the feeding fee for proper management of the kitchen department/ feeding project.

There are currently four branches of the Iqra weekend school, located at Dzorwulu, Ashale Botwe, East Legon and Awoshie. The Dzorwulu branch is located Behind The Dzorwulu Fidelity Bank, on the Coleman Street. The Ashale Botwe branch is the premises of Southeastern Montessori Academy located at Ashale-Botwe, close to Newtown Junction. The East Legon branch is located adjacent Knustford University & behind ‘Mensvic’ hotel. The Awoshie branch is located at Anyaa Market, Near Celona Hotel.
