British International Curriculum

Edexcel is a British multinational education and examination body formed in 1996 and wholly owned by
Pearson plc since 2005. It is the only privately owned examination board in the United Kingdom. Its
name is a portmanteau term combining the words education and excellence.
Pearson Edexcel – Early Years: This curricula is a 2 year programme for K and pre-K reception and
nursery children. It contains clear and exemplified objectives to help teachers understand the level that
children should be working at and how learning progresses over time.
Pearson Edexcel – iPrimary & iLowerSecondary are complete programmes for use in International
Schools for English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and Global Citizenship, for children aged 3 to 14.
Each comes with a wealth of support with sample schemes of work, exemplified units of work, internally
assessed progress tests, externally assessed achievement tests and a comprehensive professional
development programme.

Iqra Centre Islamic education

Iqra is an Islamic school that provides basic Arabic speaking and understanding vocabulary and grammar to assist children in understanding the books of our religion and how to read and write Arabic fluently.
We use our own Iqra Centre Islamic Education Curriculum in addition to some selected support materials. Some subjects taught include Quran Memorization and Recitation, Arabic language, Hadith, Du’aa, Life of the Prophet, Islamic Morals and manners, Quran studies and Islamic studies.

Qaa-idah - Recognition of Arabic letters and combining letters to make words.
Quran Recitation and Tajweed -
Reciting the Quran fluently with its proper rules and modes of recitations.
Quran Memorisation - Starting with the surahs of Juz 30 [Amma] and increasing memorization at a rate tailored to individual students.
Salat and Supplications - Supplications needed for prayer and more.
Other Islamic Education Subjects - Hadith, Du’aa, Life of the Prophet, Islamic Morals and manners [Tarbiyyah],
Quran studies, and Islamic studies.

[Excursions/ Educational trips]

The school organises excursions for the students periodically. Some of the places we visited in the past are the zoo, airport and naval base of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Memories of school Educational trips are among the most prominent of the formative years, largely because they are a welcome break in the routine for both students and teachers. While their purpose is essentially to educate, they can also be a fun bonding experience for everyone involved.

The Need For Educational trips

Reinforcement
The trip can reinforce what a teacher has been instructing in class about a subject and help students understand the topic better.

Engagement
Teachers turn trips into mobile classrooms, instructing students to collect data, then quizzing them or assigning a project based on what they learned during the outing.

Socialization
Taking students into a new environment gives them the experience of traveling in a group and teaches them to be respectful of the locations they visit.

Exposure
Kids get to visit a place to which they have never been before. This can be particularly advantageous to students who are less fortunate and don't have the opportunity to travel.

Curiosity
Students who go on Educational trips find that they want to learn more about the subjects on which the trip focused.

Retention
The type of memories that Educational trips create, called “episodic memories,” helps children retain information for longer periods.

Our co-curricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered part of a well-rounded education. Through co-curricular activities, concepts and learning strategies are adopted in developing students' potential, talents, interests, abilities, personality, cooperation, and independence can be optimised to support the achievement of holistic education goals. Swimming, Baking, Football, Martial arts, Beading, Horse riding are some of the activities lined up for the 2022/2023 academic year.

There are currently two branches of the Iqra weekday school, located at Dzorwulu, and Ashaley Botwe.

The Dzorwulu branch is located behind The Dzorwulu Fidelity Bank, on the Coleman Street.

The Ashaley Botwe branch  is in Ashaley Botwe - New Town Junction
